Siren

As I chased the sun between a finger and thumb,
Daedalus laughed at me and he cried:
"She's got time on her side;
still, you spread your waxen wings too soon."

For a smile that could only do harm,
and a thousand-yard-stare only she could disarm.
Lay a wreath at my feet,
while I take the flowers from your hair and,
throw them in the fireplace,
amongst the youth our ashes erase;
told truths we couldn't face.
Lonely on a crowded stage.

As I fell beneath ocean waves,
and until I touched sandy floors,
Athena cradled me whispering in my ear:
"She breathes to her own tune,
so let go of her lead balloon,
before your fortune peaks too soon."

For a smile that could only do harm,
and a thousand-yard-stare only she could disarm.
Lay a wreath at my feet,
while I take the flowers from your hair,
and throw them in the fireplace,
amongst the youth our ashes erase;
told truths we couldn't face.
Lonely on a crowded stage.

So eclipse me now
and show me how
to walk the horizon
without looking back, siren.
